Boiler Room the New Sweet Shop? (maybe for some)

Not that anyone's keeping track, but so far the civil advocacy program's interns have been living the high life. Week 1 they were taken to lunch at the cozy Thai restaurant in Nelson County, then treated to ice cream on the way home. Today they were favored with lunch at West Main, with its "upscale casual" cuisine and linen napkins, followed by 3-dollar gourmet chocolates from Gearhart's. (Reportedly, one even ate her Taj chocolate truffle in the Boiler Room while the other interns watched.)

Now, of course none of us begrudge our colleagues' good fortune (which apparently even includes trips to Washington Nationals' games for some), but even just a doggie bag now and then for the others might help keep things civil in the Boiler Room as the summer heats up.

What Would MacGyver Do?

In the face of overwhelming space and media issues the interns asked themselves one simple questions... thus far the answers have proved most inspiring.

Scalia's daughter, DUI at fast food place

According to reports, she was "arrested Monday evening while driving away from a fast-food restaurant in the suburb 20 miles west of Chicago, police said. Three children were inside Banaszewski’s van when someone called police to report a suspected intoxicated driver, said Deputy Chief Tom Meloni. Meloni would not release Banaszewski’s blood-alcohol level."

Along those lines...

The Big Lie?

So, an anonymous lackey in the Boiler Room has begun to unravel what looks to be yet another bum steer from the LAJC staff. The boss and a number of the attorneys claim that every year of LAJC interns performs a skit at the end of the summer--a proud tradition we will be required to continue.

The truth? A number of knowledgable sources have revealed that last summer the interns performed no such skit. And we have yet to learn from any disinterested source whether any earlier years' interns in fact did produce a skit.
Hmm...

It's about the fellowship...

Clarification from the boss today. Arriving early may be rewarded with "the occasional morsel of food," but it's the "quality fellowship and camaraderie" that's the real prize.

Got it.

"My friend actually got taken to jail and it was my fault," intern says with disturbing smile on their face.

Quote of the Day

One intern comments, "This meat on my roast beef sandwich is really raw."
Another intern asks, "What do you mean by 'really raw'?"
The first intern replies, "I mean, it's bleeding."

We've Been Tricked

I can vividly remember Alex saying thursday during orientation that one of the reasons it is important to arrive at work at 8:30am is that the best food is out then and we will have first dibs. Well, sadly, there was no food today. Maybe there's hope. Maybe the magic "Morning Food Man" was sick today and there will be food for every other morning starting next week. Otherwise, it's just cruel to entice interns to arrive 30 minutes earlier each day with hopes of filling their bellies. I mean...how do we know whether to eat breaksfast or not?

Boiler Room Gets A Makeover

Hey, it has really changed in the Boiler Room today. Thanks to a trip to one intern's home, a intern field trip to the attic, and the hard work of two men the boiler room is new and improved with more workspace. Unfortunately, only a select few received their own imaginary offices with phones and mailboxes. The rest of us are stuck at the same old boring table, but at least there's more elbow room (until the other interns come in from their outside assignments or get kicked out of their supervisor's office when he gets back from Guatamala). The main point is that the Boiler Room has a new look which proves that law school students really can make a change when they put their minds and efforts together. Great job guys!
